Review on GEARWRENCH 35 Piece 1/4 Inch Drive MicroDriver Set - The Ultimate Toolkit for Precise Projects by Matt Vanlaere

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very handy little set well made

After looking at two similar sets at Lowe's I gave up and bought this gearwrench instead because the ratchet is a bit longer (5.1 inches from end to end) . end) and Taiwan vs China (although honestly the country of origin for these bits and heads and what they are used for doesn't really matter as far as quality/suitability goes). except for the smallest two hex bits, which require a slight correction at the ends of their tips (not a big deal, but it can make a difference on some fasteners). The 1/4" socket adapter is semi-faulty though. It fits the Conviction somewhat, but I have to pry it out at the top with something because I can't get it out properly without pliers - that can be an advantage or a disadvantage, just one small problem.. It doesn't use small grooves to connect to the spring clip like bits do, instead it slides deep enough that the entire hex body is behind the clip - I can carefully carve a little relief into it and see See if that helps. I also bought a similar but MUCH better 8" mini ratchet from Vim and the socket adapter works fine with it (it's a very well made and enjoyable tool to use and if you don't have bits / Sockets with a tool, worth trying them in 3", 5", 8" or 12". Very nice tool and an evolution of Gearwrench here). will probably always be there for replacement/warranty, if necessary, what to f Can't comment on the Kobalt label. If you want better quality check out Vim (also made in Taiwan) but this one isn't shabby at all. Just keep in mind that it's tiny and doesn't lend itself so well to high torque applications. Update: after a few months of fairly heavy use I'm still very happy with it. I've put some stupid force on it by doing some 3 /8 removed "x 5" screws from the old studs, it held up great if not comfortably. ortable with so much torque. I see a lot of feedback on split ratchet heads. I hope that doesn't happen to me, but so far so good.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Price to break a piggy bank
