Review on Portable USB 3.0 External CD/DVD +/-RW Drive - Slim DVD/CD ROM Rewriter Burner for Laptop (Blue) by Tom Goodlow

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Slow, slow and damn slow. 1990?

I was looking for a cheap, but inexpensive and fast USB CD-ROM reader/writer. Looking at the star reviews, you might think this is just what you need. I needed a device to convert my CD collection to MP3 for PC and Walkman. I was using the Sony Media Center software that I've used with other PCs in the past and haven't had any read/write speed issues. So far I have not used this device. SO SLOW. I'm talking about half an hour to an hour to save 1 disc in AAC format at 256kbps, which is below the standard I need for my music. I used to have decent read/write speeds on my 10 year old ASUS computer. We're talking about a 10-year-old PC outperforming a device that's not even that old. I seriously felt like I was in 1990 trying to read/write CDs. If you've ever had a SEGA CD and tried to play it, it's FASTER than this product! Unacceptable and embarrassing! Of course, that's what I get when I'm trying to save a few bucks and buy some sort of all-rounder. See, if you're trying to write/read anything, avoid this product. I returned it today and I can say it's an easy process thanks to the physical Revain pickup points. Spend $10 more and get recorders from LG or ASUS. I went out and got ASUS ZenDrive and its lightning speed.
