Review on πŸ”₯ Say Goodbye to Messy Microwaves with the Microwave Spatter Screen by Eddie Kittylovin

Revainrating 3 out of 5

More fragile than I thought, sagging in the middle.

I use the microwave for many tomato and curry based sauce dishes. I bought a hard plastic cover screen from Trader Joe's a few years ago and I've been very happy with it. However, over the years it has discolored a bit from the curry splashes and when I saw this splash guard I decided to give it a try. I am attaching some photos to accompany my review. Photo #1 showing my hand under the splash screen shows what the screen looks like. It looks and feels like a piece of sheer window curtain. The edges are unfinished and have a jagged appearance as if someone cut them with scissors (i.e. it's not a smooth edge if you cut it with a circular saw). At the edge, a red caterpillar is glued to the material every few centimeters. These beads are meant to hold the edges when the material is wrapped around the plate in the microwave, but they're too light to do the job well. If you have a large plate, the material will sag in the center and touch the food. What I liked: 1) prevents splattering 2) it was relatively inexpensive 3) I could wash it like a rag with dish soap and the splatter was gone. There were no curry stains, but I don't blame the material. What I didn't like: 1) Sagging in center and in contact with food 2) Relatively small diameter, not enough to cover some of my cooking containers (see #2 where the spray is over a small hummus container for relative size) 3) After washing it, I had trouble finding a place to dry it. My hard plastic strainer only goes in the dishwasher, but it was hard to find a place for this large, see-through piece of fabric to get out of the way. 4) Looks rather unattractive, very homey. for small containers where the screen has a lot of overlap to keep it from sagging in the middle, but that's not enough for my needs. I wouldn't buy it again.
