It's solid, well weighted so it doesn't slip, easy to adjust. The microscope isn't as powerful as you might recognize from high school biology class, but the magnification is enough to satisfy their curiosity. Aside from the power of the scope, what's particularly nice is that it has three levels of magnification. It comes with two prepared slides that really piqued her curiosity. She used blank slides to examine the various samples she found around the house. She hasn't used it much yet, but it's a great resource for further research. The base is made of plastic and will bend when you use the table clamps to hold the slides. The display only offers 320 x 240, 640 x 480 and 720 x 480 resolutions. The 640 x 480 resolution looks good on the display. When using a computer monitor, the full screen image is not clear on a 1080p monitor. Precise focusing is achieved by turning the wheel on the turret.
