FADING Electronics are good for computer components

ONE YEAR UPDATE. other anomalies (see photo). The device is located indoors away from windows, sun and excessive heat. I checked the power supply for undervoltage, everything is fine. I update every two minutes. Maybe the screen technology has a maximum update limit? In any case, if you plan on buying this and like me using it all the time, consider limiting the screen updates to about every ten minutes or so. PREVIOUS CHECK. from the ideal. First of all: the lack of a partial update. This display is not suitable for anything that requires timely updating (e.g. to show the time). which is updated hourly or daily. The second related issue is software related. It's not even compatible with Python 3 so I fixed it to make it work. It's very limited and actually only supports one function: replacing the entire screen with a byte array. Basically it uses PIL to do something useful. I say it's related because I don't think the update issue is necessarily a hardware limitation. I think with the appropriate driver it would be possible to partially update the ates screen. The third issue is the crappy 8 pin PH 2.0mm connector they decided to use on the board side to use. It goes in a few millimeters and then abruptly stops, with no reassuring "click!", no locking mechanism, and no indication that it's properly installed (in fact, it sticks out even when fully installed). The included cable is eight individual wires (possibly 28AWG) with 2.54mm Dupont connectors terminating in this PH connector. TIP: If you are using a Raspberry Pi, replace eight separate 1x1 cases with one 2x7 case (or longer). This way you only have to make one connection, not eight (less room for error). And since all female pins work in unison, they are held by a lot more tension. The individual 1x1 connections hardly stretch and come loose easily. So for the price it's just an unbeatable display. High contrast and good image quality in any light, including outdoors. Run this partial update and everything else will be forgiven.

Pros
  • Extremely low power consumption, basically only needs power to update
Cons
  • Makes me nervous
