I have to admit, I let my old carbon blocks go for over a year, and only replaced them because they say replace every six months. I had not had any off flavors starting with the old carbon blocks and after seeing the old ones, am not sure I needed to replace them still, but peace of mind is a very valuable thing. The new filters came in separate shipments but a few hours apart. Installation in my Big Blue took me about half an hour, the biggest challenge was that the canisters seemed to have gotten tighter over the past year (I used a ball receiver hitch from a car to extend the leverage of my wrench and avoided hurting myself) - definitely took advantage of the bleed valves on top of each canister. Putting the new filters in was super easy and I added a little safe lubricant to both the washers on either end of the filters and was fully installed in minutes.
