Review on Technology Research 40100 Automatic Transfer by Gabriel Salleh

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Not satisfied with the plastic box and mounting screws.

This switch came quickly (2 days) but the product is made of black plastic, not galvanized metal as it might appear in the picture. Also, TRC (Technology Research) was acquired by Southwire and the product is now Southwire. My main complaint after installation was the plastic box. The box is made out of fairly brittle plastic and I was very careful not to overtighten the taps to secure the box to the camper and am worried about the taps breaking on the road while driving. The instructions were clear and it was built similarly to the Progressive Dynamics shifter I was replacing. I had to find a torque wrench that measures in inch-pounds, but I didn't like the fact that only a flathead screwdriver bit was used for the shoulder screws. I wish they had used almost everything else ie. I would prefer a star or square nozzle. It took me about 4 hours to remove the old one and install this switch, more than I feared for a DIYer. There's no chatter when connected, and the hum is minimal at worst. Update: After 6 months and a long drive including 12 days of dry camping, this unit is performing well. I don't hear any buzzing and the device works as it should.

Pros
  • Sturdy design
Cons
  • Don't really like it, everything is fine
