Review on Retro Bit Official Controller 8 Button Raspberry by Cornelius Reeves

Most authentic replica I've seen and great controller

Disclaimer: I have never owned a Sega Genesis or any other Sega console. I was a Nintendo kid. But I enjoyed playing Sega at my friend's house. I can't remember exactly how the controller felt, but this controller still gives me a good dose of nostalgia. And, to put it simply, it's now my favorite controller for arcade, fighting, and classic Sega games. The buttons are firm and responsive, and the D-Pad, while not as precise as many Nintendo SNES reproductions, is still quite usable and works great in games that require you to rotate the pad (like fighting games). And you can't beat that for an authentic feel while playing Sonic. I loved this controller so much I bought a second one so my 4 year old and I could play ToeJam & Earl. It should be noted that key mapping can be a bit tricky. Luckily the controller can be toggled between D-input and X-input, but turning the controller off seems to reset this. Also, ScpToolkit doesn't work very well for those of you who, like me, use PS3 controllers on your computer. I uninstall the driver every time I connect this controller and reinstall it when I want to use my PS3 controller again. If I don't do this, some buttons on the controller don't work. But it's actually a ScpToolkit error, so the controller can't be to blame.

Pros
  • Controller
Cons
  • Mostly good but...
