Review on Wolf Tooth Components GoatLink 11 by Jeff Richmond

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Does what it's supposed to do, but I'm not sure if it really shouldn't be around 1/3 the price.

I'm using this with an M7000 (SLX) mid-cage shifter with an 11-46 tooth cassette. While not technically necessary (I've been using it for a year without), this link allows me to tweak the toggle "a little" better. One big difference I noticed is that I can now adjust screw B so the derailleur doesn't squeak when upshifting between teeth 40 and 46. I used to be able to do this (before installing GoatLink) but it took a lot of patience and it was so accurate that it didn't always shift cleanly under load on the track. Goatlink made it a lot easier to get this adjustment right and helped clean upshifting on those two gears. Worth the cost. Hard to say yes as I ride 3-4 times a week (short rides for fitness) and I'm sick of hearing 40-46 rumbles. If you're less picky or only ride your mountain bike a few times a month, I'm not sure I'd bother. I know I wouldn't install it on second bikes I don't ride much, if that tells you anything. I WILL keep it on my main bike though, simply because it takes away that little friction.

Pros
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • Security
