Review on 1-Gallon Nu-Calgon Evaporator Power for Enhanced Performance by Todd Look

looks like a mixture of detergent and alcohol

There seem to be many solutions. As far as I remember from my organic chemistry it looks like a mixture of detergent and alcohol. Arrived quickly in the mail. I used it on my 12 year old Mitsubishi split in my master bedroom (this is the first time I've cleaned an evaporator) with a 1 gallon spray pump. It cleans the air handling unit quite well: the areas at the base of the fins (in the valleys) are very, very clean. Most of the sewage actually flowed through the drain pipe. I had yet to shake off the lint stuck to the top of the fins (carefully, with a toothbrush) and the large plastic bag I used as a trap caught it. The air conditioner is now cold! I didn't buy any waste water collection kits. I used a large plastic bag that contained a new bed frame. It worked fine. I just used duct tape to attach it to the air vent but also left the bottom of the plastic bag in the large fridge drawer. I made a gallon of the solution and now I have quite a bit left over. I thought I could clean the air conditioners in my cars, but the evaporators are difficult to access. I then used a bit of it to clean the air conditioner fins in our air conditioner, but even after 12 years of use, the air conditioners were still pretty clean. I might have found it easier to clean the fins if I had a pump sprayer that could spray with more force. The price varies depending on the internet. I got mine for about $36.

Pros
  • Health and life
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly
