Review on LG 27UL500-W 4K UHD IPS Monitor πŸ” with Freesync, HDR, Tilt Adjustment, and Wall Mount Compatibility by Gary Reese

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good looking IPS display for color accuracy

I chose this monitor for both its sleek looks and the fact that it comes with a 4K resolution IPS display. Color accuracy and decent brightness are well suited for what this monitor is used for most: general computing and photo editing in particular. The on-screen controls are easy to use, although I have to admit that I'm not really a fan of the joystick-like push-button approach to built-in functions. Especially when the button is placed under the bottom front edge of the screen, in the middle where it's hard to notice it's there. I expect it will become second nature after a while. Photo editing made easy with the size, resolution and 98% sRGB color gamut of the IPS display. Definitely an improvement over many older and even some modern display technologies. As far as gaming goes, this is NOT the monitor that serious gamers are likely to want. While the specs aren't bad, the fact that the refresh rate is only capped at 60Hz means they're likely not happy with the performance, resulting in a lower rating for that purpose. However, you CAN play great on it and save a lot of money compared to "gaming monitors" of this size if you are willing to compromise on refresh rates. Casual gamers will likely appreciate a 4K resolution instead of HD 1080p, some built-in settings for gaming, and FreeSync support. Overall, I find the monitor easy to set up and use. It includes two HDMI ports, 1 Displayport and a headphone jack. The white and silver color scheme is a nice change from the typical black and suits those building a new PC in a white color scheme well.

  • Gives pleasure
Cons
  • Color balancing: If the colors on the display are not precisely calibrated, the display can appear washed out or too bright.
