Review on ๐ŸŒง๏ธ General Tools MMD7NP: Pinless Moisture Meter & Water Leak Detector with Backlit LCD Screen by Mark Jefferson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Does not detect moisture; This is bad for a moisture meter.

I've had it for almost a year but haven't really tried using it, so as an experiment I used a 5/8 piece of drywall and soaked the backing with water until it was paper was saturated. The meter couldn't see it in the wall setting, barely at 03% in the softwood setting, 01% in the masonry setting and nothing in the others. The water would have to actually seep through the plaster to the exterior surface to find out, which would be pointless until then as you could see the water damage. If the back of your wall is soaked with water and you get a "green" color, it means damage and mold. Yes, 5/8 thick for wall panels, but these pieces should penetrate about 2 inches. This? Not as much. After I scratched the back with the help so that the water could get into the paper, it worked. I then had readings of 60-100%. So water running down the back of the drywall won't register unless it can reach the inner layer of the backing paper, which is essentially a wall filled with water that's been in the water for a while was.
