update; Man I'm really disappointed in this thing. Even a new fixture with new bulbs of the right wattage will break much quicker than I expected something this expensive to fail. It's been less than a year. The plastic pieces holding the ceramic base of the bulbs all shatter, which feels dangerous and causes the bulbs to detach and go out. I'm getting rid of this mount and was hoping to sell it used until I noticed a problem with the plastic. I don't even want to resell it if it's not safe to use. Just a colossal waste of money. I don't think I'll be using the Exo Terra ecosystem again. I'll go back to the drawing board with the tried and tested metal dome lights and maybe build a wooden frame to hide the clutter and hold in the heat. Save yourself the hassle and risk of fire; just flush a few hundred bucks down the toilet instead. -------*point time* I'm not a happy tourist right now. In search of the Exo Terra I turned my bags inside out so I could get an old large 36 inch terrarium and 2 custom made canopy lights. revenge Well, after a couple of months one of the lights on the ceiling started randomly blowing out the lightbulbs left and right. After the fourth bulb burned out, I removed the lamp to have a look. The plastic holding the lamp sockets appears to have melted a bit in places. Obviously afraid - I turned it off and put it aside. I went ahead and ordered a replacement hoping my lizard would only be cold for a few days. The other light worked fine and continues to appear completely normal. I didn't see an option to replace the defective light with Revain, so I contacted Exo Terra to see if the manufacturer's warranty was included (since it was within 6 months). An Exo Terra representative told me that their electronics came with be supplied with a 1 year warranty, and I should be able to return it if I contact the seller. Cool. I contacted Revain support and retold my story, mentioning that the product should have a 1 year warranty. The Revain rep replied that the return period (30 days, standard return period and NOT the same as warranty) had expired and offered me a "one time exception" in the form of a partial refund or discount on a new light. Having been told that this item is guaranteed to work for one year, I would feel cheated if I accepted a 'one time' partial refund - and what happens if my replacement bulb also fails within a year? But. I wasn't sure (and still am not sure) if retailer guidelines take precedence over manufacturer guidelines. I went back to the Exo Terra representative for advice and he told me to contact the manufacturer. Good. I contacted the manufacturer, Rolf S. Hagen, and told the full story from above. The employee who responded told me that they cannot discuss Revain's (?) return policy and that the warranty is provided by Exo Terra (?); You were just the manufacturer of the product. Above all. which one? Does the manufacturer's guarantee not apply to the manufacturer? Second. Exo Terra's contact page directs customers to Rolf C. Hagen Inc. - I don't know why both of them try to shift the responsibility onto each other. Anyway, the Hagen representative then asked me what lamps I was using and asked for additional proof of purchase. I sent them as much information as possible but they told me that I use 40 watt bulbs while the light only draws up to 26 watts and therefore they will not replace the light. Except that this is NOT what the product listing says. The product description states that the light fixture can use fluorescent bulbs (max 26w) OR incandescent bulbs (max 40w) and I used incandescent bulbs. As proof, I sent the manufacturer a screenshot. I'm still waiting for an answer but right now I'm quite angry. I've either been tricked into buying a bunch of incompatible products due to a completely wrong product listing and I'm being penalized for doing so, or I'm currently being denied a valid return because the manufacturer's representative doesn't know what they are doing. talk about it. . Anyway, I've lost over $60 (much more if you count all the lightbulbs) and I've spent a week getting jacked by 3 different companies and I'm fed up. high. Unfortunately, I've never had a bad experience with Exo Terra products, but when it was bad. this is bad. This experience made me very wary of purchasing any expensive Exo Terra product, especially electrical equipment, just in case there were problems and I had to relive that miserable support volleyball game. I will edit this review with any updates. Location. I just wanted to write "Buyer Attention". The fixture will likely work well with fluorescent or low-power incandescent bulbs that don't heat it up too much. However if like me you need heat and your lights go out after 30 days I can't be sure you will get the resolution you want.
