RMA 1 of 6 for Computers & Accessories

I bought 6 of these drives to upgrade my 6-drive QNAP NAS. I used to have 6 red WD 6TB drives and heard good things about Seagate. Most people assume these are faster NAS drives with better caching capabilities. But I knew that the bigger the drive, the more likely you would run into a problem. I've been able to replace each drive and in fact the drives work fine and don't seem to have any heat issues. I am using a RAID 6 configuration. However, one of the drives failed about a year after purchase. My QNAP warned me. You always get nervous when you see a disk dying, but at least for RAID 6 it should (in theory) be fine. I went to the website and they easily found my drive by serial number. So I could take an RMA under warranty. You can send in a disc and they will send you a new one for free. Or pay $20 shipping to you and return the broken drive. More expensive options for faster delivery. I went for the $20 option. But the new drive arrived 5 days later with a return label/box for the failed drive. So overall I'm very happy with the exchange and the ease of the RMA process. I was satisfied with the product and the company. This is of course difficult for me, since my WDs have never had any problems. However, a good company and a simple RMA process is probably all you could ask for. And they tend to be cheaper than WD drives, at least when I bought mine. This is just a reminder to always back up and use a good RAID for your data. Big drives fail, and when they fail, that's it. So be careful. Buy more storage than you need and use RAID 6 or better.
