Not worth it at all

I have been using WD Red hard drives for over 7 years and decided to give IronWolf a try. In less than 2 years, two of my devices started showing more and more bad sectors. The other two work with WD Red drives that are 5 years old and still have defects. Seagate's support is weak and you have to back up your 10TB data first and then send them the drive. And the fine print says you're getting a used/refurbished unit. I do not recommend it to anyone.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Low repairability

Great value for data storage

This review is for the 10TB Ironwolf (Amazon bundles all sizes in reviews). I really don't know what some people are saying about noise, vibration and compatibility in their reviews. YES, you can use NAS drives like regular desktop drives. Nowhere on the Seagate website does it say bug fixes are nonexistent or limited. I've used NAS drives like regular desktop drives for years with no noticeable difference in how they work/function compared to a "desktop" drive. In fact, I prefer them for…

Failed on day 32, wish I could give zero stars

Drive failed the day after the Revain return window closed. offensive joke. You received the disc and did nothing to arrange for a replacement. When I ask for a replacement I only get general, formulaic answers. Now I've found that I need to report Seagate to the Better Business Bureau to get my hard drive back.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Some little things

Attention buyers, internal drives

I love these drives as I've bought eight of them from Revain over the years and use them in my QNAP TVS-871 server which I also bought from Revain. had two problems. 1) The third CD I bought came in the box with no packing material so it bounced around. I tested the drive and it worked fine, so I kept using it, although I'd happily return it. I have found that I cannot return it due to the following Revain policy: You can return any new computer purchased from Revain.com that is "Defective on…

No write caching with Synology!

Due to some issues with this drive and Synology, Synology does not include write caching for it. It's pretty confusing for a drive built for NAS use and the partnership that Synology and Seagate claim. Search for ST10000VN0004-1ZD101 and google the cache and see the problem. The newer 10TB ST10000VN0008 doesn't seem to have this issue. The only problem is that no one is selling it yet. I would stay away from this drive for use with Synology. There is no fixed schedule for bug fixes. Also, the…

RMA 1 of 6 for Computers & Accessories

I bought 6 of these drives to upgrade my 6-drive QNAP NAS. I used to have 6 red WD 6TB drives and heard good things about Seagate. Most people assume these are faster NAS drives with better caching capabilities. But I knew that the bigger the drive, the more likely you would run into a problem. I've been able to replace each drive and in fact the drives work fine and don't seem to have any heat issues. I am using a RAID 6 configuration. However, one of the drives failed about a year after…

Loud since everyone goes out.

I recommend this Seagate IronWolf ST10000VN0008 10TB hard drive. It's available on Revain. Just google. The drive I'm looking at has caching issues with Synology NAS devices. Get a Seagate IronWolf ST10000VN0008 10TB hard drive instead. The disc I am reviewing is very loud and makes rattling noises during recording. It knocked sporadically when it was first turned on at idle. But after I initialized and formatted it, it stopped. Next time I will buy a Seagate IronWolf ST10000VN0008 10TB hard…
