Simple and Works: Electric Drill Parts and Accessories

I do farm maintenance and part of my job involves repairing augers. These augers are driven from one end by a hub that fits over the end of a shaft that a screw goes through to connect everything together. What happens is that every once in a while something loosens, starts wobbling and the end of the drill shaft wears out. It's easy to fix: cut off the damaged area at the end of the worm shaft, screw on the extension sleeve, put everything back together and off you go. The problem is drilling a new hole in the end of the existing worm shaft. The hole needs to be square and centered for everything to fit properly. This job used to mean pulling the entire auger shaft out of the assembly (some of them are over 20 feet long and maybe 80 pounds), hauling them to the shop, figuring out how to attach them to the drill press, everything to drill a hole. Using this guide, all I have to do is pull the shaft out far enough to make room for the drill bit, clamp it onto the shaft, and drill a hole. Turns a 3-4 hour job into a job that takes less than an hour. While it may not be as accurate as the Space Shuttle, it works VERY well by driving the drill straight and at right angles. Just make sure it's securely fastened so it can't move. The principle of its work is very simple. This is a simple jig with a series of precisely drilled holes to act as a guide for your drill. It's fairly hard steel, it seems the bits can't get in it and widen the holes. There is a V-groove on the back of the jig so the jig will automatically center and align when you mount it on a shaft or pipe. You can only use it for drilling sizes on the template and places where you can attach it. However, with larger holes I've also had good luck drilling pilot holes and then carefully widening the hole with a suitable drill bit, just work slowly and carefully. For drilling flat objects, follow the advice I've read. in another review. Shine the light on the V-groove and you will see a hole that you will use as a guide to center the fixture. It's one of those tools that's so simple and error-proof that every exercise should be one.
