I've solved the mystery of why these canvases are so cheap. They have staples around the edges, not the back. So if you're thinking of using them in class, ask your teacher first, or don't tell them at all. If you were hoping to use them for gallery decoration, you'll need to hide the staples somehow. Maybe paint over it or put the canvas in a frame. They come with a small bag of pieces of wood that you stuff into the corners in case the canvas sags, but I've worked with acrylic and haven't had this problem. And one more thing: the box they came in was too big. I felt guilty that the box wasn't full and was taking up space in the van.
