Review on ๐ŸŽฎ Enhance Your Gaming Experience with the Mayflash Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii/Wii U by Born Waheed

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Reliable adapter, but not without problems.

I bought this adapter to connect Super Smash Bros. My favorite controllers for Smash Bros. games. and virtual console. This is currently the only controller adapter that allows you to use Gamecube controllers on the Wii U. That will change this winter, however, when the PDP comes out with a Gamecube-inspired Battle Pad (officially licensed by Nintendo) and Nintendo itself releases its Gamecube Controller Adapter for the Wii U. But if you can't wait until those products come out and want to break your gamecube controllers, this is a great adapter. It essentially does what is advertised, which is to get the Wii U console to recognize the Gamecube controller as a classic Wii controller. Unfortunately, he also encounters some problems. Since the Wii Classic controllers have three buttons in the middle (the - button, the HOME button, and the + button) while the Gamecube only has one (the Start/Pause button), they decided to use all of them three classic controller buttons to map the start button. /Pause" Gamecube. So if you want to press "-", press the "Start" button once, if you want to press "+", press the "Start" button twice, and if you want to go to the main menu , press and hold the "Start button. for a few seconds. While it's nice that they at least have a workaround for this problem, it seems a bit inaccurate. Another thing you'll notice is that the pressure-sensitive L and R side buttons on the Gamecube controller don't work the way they used to. . You must press the L and R buttons all the way down to register a button press. This is to be expected since the classic Wii controllers don't have the analog triggers that the Gamecube does. There's also no ZL button, and the Z button on the Gamecube controller responds the same way as the ZR button on a classic controller. If those were the only issues I would give it five stars as these are pretty minor setbacks. But when I connect the Gamecube controller to the adapter for the first time, it disconnects a bit. The LED on the adapter flashes quickly and the HOME menu keeps opening and closing. This takes about 15-30 seconds before I can actually use the controller without freezing. It works fine after those first few seconds, but I'm going a bit crazy before it actually works. I'm not sure if it's just my adapter or if it's common to all. All in all, this adapter is fully functional and the Gamecube controllers now work great with my Wii U if you're willing to overcome the expected button toggling and momentary disconnection when first plugging in a controller. It'll be interesting to see how well this stacks up with other options that come out. When Super Smash Bros. for Wii U hits stores, it's a great option for now.

Pros
  • Compatible with all games supported by the Wii Classic Controller Pro.
Cons
  • Not sure.
