I used this primer on my dresser for two reasons: It has a glossy finish and is part wood and part laminate/plywood. I didn't want to sand the laminate because it can release toxic chemicals. Method: I cleaned the entire dresser very well with a homemade solution of vinegar and water. I dried it and lightly sanded the wood components. Then 2-3 coats of primer were applied to each surface. It adheres well to all surfaces. The laminate needed 3 coats for a perfect finish while the wooden parts only needed 2 coats. I really like the color of the gray primer. It was a little lighter than the chalk paint I used (Smoky Owl Quartz). I also like that it blocks wood seepage. On previous jobs that I haven't primed, I've had to use shellac to keep the tannins from seeping through the paint. Then I added 2 coats of chalk paint. Finally I covered the part with three coats of Miniwax Polycryl. Looks great. Additional note: although it is low in VOCs, it does have an odor when applied (which goes away when dry) and it still contains chemicals, so ensure good ventilation (go outside or open windows) and put one on mask on.
