Inexpensive option with software, works with PC and Mac

Budget option, USB powered and own burning software. This DVD burner also works with the latest Windows and Mac operating systems. The worst I can say about it is that it's USB 2.0 and is noticeably slow at only 8x. This drive couldn't be easier to install. Unpack it, plug it into an available USB port on your PC or Mac and it should automatically be detected and the generic drivers installed. Then insert the supplied CD into the drive (open using the built-in button on the front of the drive). You may need to find a hard drive in the control panel or similar on your computer, or like my new HP ENVY M6 TouchSmart Sleekbook Touchscreen Laptop - 15.6" Display / AMD Elite A10-5745M Quad Core Processor / 8GB Storage / 1TB HD / On Windows 8 with Windows 8.1, you may be prompted to open the CD, run the CD, or choose one of several other options. When you open the CD you will be asked if you want to install the included Cyberlink software. Installation takes about five minutes and the Power2Go7 software will install and prompt you to register. Features include creating data, music, and video discs (CD or DVD), burning disc images, or ripping discs. You can also create mixed content CDs, erase discs, rip audio, and convert audio files. You can also create photo gallery CDs or DVDs. The drive itself is silent, and a small blue indicator (thin line) appears at the top of the drive when connected and is ready for use. The small green indicator light on the front of the drive flashes when it's reading a disc. The grid cable is short but ideal for use with laptops. If you're using it with a desktop computer, you'll likely need a USB cable extension like this one: Mediabridge 2.0 USB Extension Cable (6ft) - Male to Female with gold-plated contacts. It's done by installing software, watching DVDs with VCL multimedia software (a freeware program used instead of Windows Media Player), and burning DVDs. Everything went with ease, but a bit slower than what I'm used to from my built-in drive on a desktop PC with similar performance. I recommend this drive to Mac and PC users who own a Macbook or Ultrabook and want an optical drive. . The drive is well built and the software that comes with it is a win at this price point and if you don't mind the 8x speed this is a great deal!
