Review on Nano Energizer Motorbike Smaller Restoration by Steven Notsinneh

Revainrating 5 out of 5

1957 John Deere 420

I found out about this product a few years ago but never had the chance to try it so when it seemed like I'd have to sharpen and re-ring our twin cylinder workhorse, I ordered three packs of the smaller Nano Energizer motor. The tractor had difficulties starting, almost did not want to run completely closed without the choke, had a noticeable loss of power and speed, the oil had overflowed by a liter or more and smelled of petrol. A compression test showed the rear cylinder was 60 lbs. compression and the front cylinder was 80 lbs. The valves seemed fine, so a preliminary diagnosis was made that indicated unburned fuel was pressing on the rings and contaminating the oil in the crankcase. Since I prefer to do even partial repairs in the off-season, I decided to try rebuilding the oil additives, if only to get 5 or 6 months of work out of it before the winter repair. After the oil change I started it, it ran rough and got warm. I dumped about two gallons of fuel in the tank and a packet of Nano Energizer in the oil filler neck and started backhoeing until the fuel ran out. Left her for the night, tk. the day was getting long. I checked the compression first thing in the morning. One hundred and twenty pounds in the rear cylinder and one hundred and nineteen and a half in the front cylinder! The fuel and air screws on the carburetor had to be readjusted and soon it was idling or full throttle with the choke fully open. Top speed and revs are back and I'm not at all sure I'll ever have to take it to the shop this winter. Can't comment on longevity but to date performance is up to par. Time will tell.

Cons
