After reading all the reviews and knowing the extent of boat theft in the Caribbean. I thought this would be a great deterrent to install on my yacht. Installation was easy, although stopping the two panels from rattling was far from easy. After 4 months in the Caribbean and the US South Coast I decided to take the outboard down. After hours of blood, sweat and tears (a WD40 tank, too many swear words to repeat) the damn thing FINALLY came off. In short, it was corroded and full of salt (yes, there's salt in the ocean!). While I applaud the idea, the materials just aren't suited to real-world use (perhaps boats on sea water). They must be stainless steel as the lock AND the plates rusted within 4 months. I think I'll put zip ties on and hope it LOOK too much PITA for opportunistic thieves trying to steal. 2 stars seems to work. But the materials for what is clearly its work environment earn it a full 5 (okay, 4.5 because the rattling is annoying on first build).
