Most of the time I prefer desoldering pumps to wicks. I have tried different pumps, this is the newest. I originally started with a subtle dark blue from Radio Shack. While I liked the fast action, the tube broke in less than a month of moderate use. So I went for a simple lamp style. Does the job but is not as efficient as a plunger which requires multiple uses which can be detrimental to the PCB and the part being desoldered. Then I worked with a very nice blue, similar to the one at work, and fell in love. So I bought this one thinking it was the same but it isn't. It's a little smaller and seems cheaper. The plastic feels a bit brittle, not nearly as bad as the Radio Shack. No problems yet, but if it breaks in a year I wouldn't be surprised. That's half the price of another model, the Edsyn Deluxe Soldapull, which I like at work, so I guess you get what you pay for. In terms of usability, it's great. Does exactly what it's supposed to do, usually removes solder in one go. The tip is holding up well, but hopefully I can find a replacement tip if needed. If it ends up breaking, I'll spend a little more next time and get the higher quality version. It's worth it for the price and features.
