This is my first and only sharpening stone and I love it. I took a course on how to properly use a whetstone to sharpen a knife (rouxbe online cooking school) and it gets the job done effectively. I'm sure some people want something with a higher grit to get a more polished shine, but this sharpening stone allows me to get a super sharp edge on my knives. To test the edge, I was taught how to cut the sheet. paper without tearing it. When I bought the whetstone, I recently got a Wüsthof for my birthday. My first homemade blade, which I got on my cheap branded knife from Food Network, was slightly better than the factory blade on Wüsthof. Knowing how to sharpen your own knife is a great skill and this whetstone is very effective. If you only get one whetstone, you won't be disappointed.
