Review on πŸ”Œ Dorman 741-872 Front Driver Side Power Window Motor and Regulator Assembly: Top Pick for Ford / Lincoln Models by Ryan Sandell

Stops working after 3 months of use.

Doesn't work anymore after 3 months. I have a 97 Expedition and the driver's side windows no longer go up/down. This is a common problem with this year's expedition. There is a plastic gear that just gives up after a while. I bought this replacement Dorman 741-872 Ford/Lincoln front driver's side window regulator, it comes with the motor. The motor is needed because in these things the gearbox is considered part of the motor. He entered and everything fell into place as it should. Has been working flawlessly for 3 months now. I chose Dorman because it had a different design. I was hoping it would be a plastic gear but I know how to be sure. Until now. After 3 months I'm writing this review because my window won't go up/down and is stuck in the down position. Picture! I had to pull it all the way out to get the window back up so I took it apart when I had it to see if it could be fixed and what the design changes were. Well, they replaced that plastic gear, but they crimped a piece of stamped sheet metal to the back to hold the gear assembly together. This can bends under the torque of the window regulator motor and over time breaks off at the splined transmission shaft, and eventually the spline shaft goes too far and just spins. So they made some improvements and then switched to a cheap cap instead of the nice molded threaded cap that came with the Ford part. This design, like the original Ford design, is irreparable. In any case I'll try to return according to Revains return policy, maybe I'll get lucky. I will try to substitute another brand, AC Delco or TYC. I ended up buying an AC Delco and was surprised/surprised. Exactly the same part arrived up to the "Made in Taiwan" stamp. I have it installed now. Revain won't be returning for obvious reasons. I've been using it for 3 months. Buying 2 and installing them yourself is still less than going to the dealer or auto repair shop.
