Excellent customer support got me started

I chose the DS-30 scanner because it is very small and fits in the very limited space I had for the side scanner. The main issue for me is the age of this design. I'm using it with a fairly new iMac running OSX=10.13.6 and the software you run with the scanner - the interactive user interface - is 32-bit, not 64-bit like all recent Mac software. The device did not turn on when I first installed it. It turned out to be a software configuration issue. I tried calling Epson support on the number from their website. After only about 5 minutes of waiting, I was connected to someone who knew exactly what I needed to do to make the software work in my environment. My requirements for the functionality are simple and limited: scan a document with one or more letter-size pages and save the result as a PDF in a specific folder/directory. I only have to do this action 2 or 3 times a week. My tests after setup gave very satisfactory results. I will report on my subsequent experiences with the device next year. When your scanning needs are simple and space is an insurmountable issue, this affordable device may be just what you need. It looks like if it can last a few years of my light usage it would be exactly what I was hoping for.
