Review on ๐Ÿพ Stay Warm in Style: Outward Hound Silverton Weatherproof Thinsulate Coat for Dogs by Linda Smith

Revainrating 5 out of 5

High quality! Complicated size.

This coat is of very high quality and will definitely keep any dog warm. For this reason I give it 5 stars and can only recommend it. Warning: Size matters and isn't nearly as easy as the description suggests, which is why I'm writing this review to help others not waste time, money, and energy on returns. I expressly disagree with the first paragraph in the description. , "*Chest is the most important parameter when it comes to choosing the best jacket size for your dog." This is absolutely and demonstrably wrong in my case, and I claim I'm not alone. Just like individual differences in the human body, all dog bodies have different proportions, and buying clothing based on measurements of a body part will surely result in a certain percentage of dogs not fitting. For example, I have a Boston Terrier in the following sizes (don't worry, I checked with her first to make sure I can share her personal information with the internet). ;) Chest: 22" Neck: 12" Length: 14" Since her bust is 22" I ordered Medium. She can wear anything from X-Small to Medium in any outfit as dog clothes sizes vary widely from manufacturer to manufacturer. In this case, the medium was MUCH longer for her. What confuses me the most about this girth statement being the last of all measurements is that by watching the video provided in the description you can see that the girth is the ONLY area of the coat that is Velcro adjustable and forgiving is fastener that can be loosened or tightened to different sizes, as opposed to back length or neckline. As I bought in advance to get a great deal and the coat is now more than double what I paid for it, I gifted this coat to my sister and her larger dog with more traditional proportions will be wearing it on the same trip, where I wanted to carry my dog. I didn't even put it on my dog because the length was obviously too long for her (I didn't measure and I've already given it away, but I would estimate the medium to be about 20 inches long, more or less. ) me buying now to replace this quality coat because it was more than double the price when I bought it before the cold weather hit. Demand is much higher now and I will pay the price. I can order small or x-small but as I don't see length or neck measurements I can now order another brand although the look and quality of this coat suits my needs perfectly. Bottom line: this is a high quality garment with excellent thermal insulation to keep your dog warm. I would recommend buying this coat if you can see it in person or if the reviewer's photo shows a dog similar to yours but a certain size. If you have a dog whose build conforms to the generally accepted ideal of proportion I might buy it based on chest size alone, however if you have a deep chested dog like a Boston, Chie or Greyhound or if you have an unusually small dog a corgi or dachshund, the chest measurements are certainly not sufficient to make an informed decision and may result in a return or exchange. If you have the patience, I recommend this purchase. Note to Manufacturers and Sellers: This is a great product but the more information in the description the better. If you want to falsely claim that bust size is the most important thing, you can do so, but you must include the neckline and length of each garment in the pursuit of informed consumers. I often have to choose between a shorter or longer back for my dog's coat/sweater depending on what I think her body needs and I need at least 3 measurements to do this successfully. I am sure that I am not alone with these needs.
