Review on πŸ“Έ Panasonic Lumix Leica DG Summilux Lens for G Series by John Fuentes

Revainrating 4 out of 5

First impression and update in two years

Just received a used lens from Revain. Excellent condition for a used lens. Compared to my Olympus 17mm f1.8 lens, it's much sharper on my M5. I still like the Oly 17 lens but will be using it for most indoor shots. If you can afford it; Buy it. Low light performance is outstanding. It's quite large with the lens hood, but feels good on the M5. It will take me longer to decide if this is a better outdoor lens than the Oly 17/1.8. I prefer the 35mm as an outdoor lens, but this lens might change my mind. I've started with a Nikon 50mm in the past and this lens is just as good as my old Nikon 50mm. I will update after spending some time with this lens. I've been using this lens on my m5 camera for over two years and there are a lot of great things that I like and a few things that aren't great. First the good: F1. 4 is great for low-light photos. The sharpness is really impressive. It reproduces images better than my other lenses. It's well made, although there's a lot of plastic inside. Ideal for portraits and general photography. Gaps Lens is large compared to my other prime lenses Lens hood won't fold down M5 camera lens can have purple fringes in certain lighting conditions M5 camera lens makes an annoying rattlesnake sound when focusing on a brightly lit object I got the star from my initial one Removed rating on issues with purple fringes and rattlesnakes. I'll leave the lens as overall it's very good. But the newer Olympus 25mm f1.8 lens is also worth considering as it's smaller and cheaper.
