Excellent vacuum cleaner for the price. I also have a SC899F with a 7 amp motor. This 5 amp vacuum is more than enough for all the carpets I've used it on (I clean carpets for a living). The SC899 is a bit overweight in some situations (not in a good way), but the SC679J has the right balance of power and size to be more maneuverable and enough power (with very good airflow) to clean carpets, which is the bigger one SC899 tries food. A wooden brush roller (with bushings, not bearings) works well but can be tricky to reinstall if removed for cleaning. This problem can be solved by applying WD40 to the rubber end pads and gently sliding the brushroll back until it is fully seated back into the body (wood can swell in certain seasons and shrink in others, so size may vary slightly). The Out bag system is pretty easy to clean, just take it outside and gently flip it over, vacuum with a hose and brush, or gently sweep dust with a duster to clean the fabric. Turn inside out and clean the outside. It only takes a few minutes once you get the hang of it. These "dirty air" vacuums rely on airflow, so resist the temptation to try to create a seal by dropping too much (leave a small gap for air to be drawn into the vacuum above the carpet can) and you will see fine particles being drawn in several inches in front of and around the vacuum cleaner. While it's perfect for home use, I recommend upgrading your brushroll to VGII at some point. to improve overall performance, but again, this isn't necessary if you use this vacuum a lot. BTW, this doesn't have a quick fan cleaning chamber (where two screws expose the fan and chamber for easy cleaning and replacement). So if cleaning is required you have to remove the motor which isn't a big deal, there are videos online demonstrating this if that's what you're looking for. It comes with an extra strap but I've been cleaning mine for a few weeks now. Now and I'm still on the original strap so if you don't use the vacuum the straps can last a long time. This is an exceptional vacuum for the price, but an adjustment to using this type of vacuum is needed if you've used the more common plastic vacuums where the motor is behind the bag (or dust box and cyclone). ) and has to pull everything and hoses through to get to the cleaning head. This motor sits right off the vent and uses airflow (with a large fan) to create negative air pressure to collect dirt. So you have to play around with the height adjustment to compensate for airflow and swelling. It's easy to learn and if you do it right, you'll get an excellent deep clean. Don't be fooled by the price, this one costs at least double what they charge.
