Semi-Private, Not Quite

First off, let me say that I love the aesthetic of this privacy sheet. The way my windows are arranged casts a prism of color across my entire dining room, which is behind the next room. The largest prism is on the wall opposite the windows. That is beautiful! Another aspect I like is at night when the window seems to be covered in icicles. You are so beautiful! Now I like looking at my windows. BUT that's not why you're considering buying this privacy film. So here's my take on it: PREPARATION: I didn't go crazy doing spring cleaning. I sprayed the windows with a mixture of cleaning products that you will use when applying the film. I then wiped it off, then sprayed with Windex and made sure all the dirt and grime was gone. Yes, I even left my ADT badge in place. MEASURE and CUT: Measure once, then measure again. I started cutting with the straight lines created by my wooden floor and lined up the straight side with the foil. Then I used a wooden ruler and drew a line on the SMOOTH side of the film. I used scissors to cut the film. I have found that I keep them straight by making short lines rather than long lines. And using a razor blade can tear the edges of the film. HUNGING: I did most of it myself. The impatient son helped with the two lower windows. Peel off the invisible non-stick backing (smooth side). You have to work from the corner of the film with your fingernail. NOTE: YES, there is indeed a protective film that you can probably remove faster if you put a small piece of tape on both sides of the film. foil and separate it from the corner. Once you start lay it flat on the TEXTURE side to keep it from creasing and remove the backing. Let them lie flat. The trick is to spray on the disc instead of wetting it, and then spray the film on the side that will stick to the disc (smooth side) with a large spray bottle made of a mixture of water and 3-4 Drop consists of sprinkling generously. Dishwashing liquid. Stick the film to the window. Align the top and corners first. Then run your hands down the sides and down the middle. After hanging, start in the center with a flat edge (credit card, squeegee, etc.), work from the center, smoothing out the film and removing any water and air bubbles. Put something down to catch the excess water, I used a towel. This part is probably the least time consuming and most satisfying. :) DURABILITY: Been hanging for two weeks now with no sign of peeling, no blisters, no breaks. This sheeting is thicker than the sheeting I bought at a major hardware store and this sheeting stayed in place for MONTHS until we moved in and removed it. I assume this does the same thing. PRIVACY: Does it do what it's advertised to do? Yes. and no. It blocks the view from the outside in and vice versa unless you are standing directly next to a window/door. In any case, you only see forms. I went outside and pressed my face against the door, closed my eyes and still couldn't see my insides. Obviously, judging by my photos, standing in front of (right next to) a door/window will see you. I didn't use it for that, I don't want the neighbors to see it in my house. After all, you are NOT seeing the inside of your home, you are seeing what is outside the window or door. I didn't do the top windows in the photos so I went back and did those too. My son has noticed that he now sits much more comfortably in the living room. In the photo you can see the dog and the plant right by the door/window, but you can't see the many other plants on the same table from the outside. WHAT IT COVER: 157 inches, 2 doors and 2 full windows. Hope that helps! Have a nice day everyone!
