Sitting on the fence between this and the Pullzal it completely outperformed the wireless Pullzal for retrieving firewood. I had both and returned the Pullzal. The spool pull function and 30 foot wire were the most important features compared to the Pullzal. I used a 20 volt Dewalt 996 drill in 3rd gear (2000 rpm) for most 45 degree pull ups for 175 feet to the buck and split station. I heat myself exclusively with wood and live on the edge of a steep hill full of firewood. I used to use a cable and pulley system but this winch has made this season so much easier. The single rope deadlift is good for 500lbs which I exceeded several times and had to switch to a snatch block system. I have three 4Ah batteries, two 5Ah batteries and three 2Ah batteries. It typically took me about 6Ah of battery to lift my logs up a 175 foot slope. He completed 32 full draws with no obvious signs of wear and tear. As I neared the 500-pound mark, my Dewalt drill performed better in 2nd gear (1300 rpm). I tried my Milwaukee Fuel 12V drill bit and it worked fine but drained the battery much faster (almost a whole 2Ah battery per 30ft pull with load). This makes sense as a lower voltage will require more current to do the same job. Many of the video reviews you look at about this product show people using it at accelerated times. I was concerned that this thing would be terribly slow. It's not slow, but it depends on your drill. The average corded drill spins slower and has less power than the 996 (the most powerful 18-volt drill you can buy right now). The winch can be fully started in about two minutes under medium load at high speed. In the upper part there is a window through which you can observe the winding of the wire. The handle is comfortable and well balanced to carry the tool. I noticed one downside, after about 6 pulls the free spool was having a harder time pulling out all the wire. Once the winch has cooled, it will be easier to turn until it has been pulled a few times. I assume it has to do with the expansion and contraction of the metal. I used this tool very quickly and expected it to fail at some point in my work. I doubt it's designed for such a duty cycle, but it worked very well. UPDATE: 8/4/18. I still used it often for the job of hauling pumps out of lift stations and I've recently used it to haul about 200 feet. 6 inch PVC on project mound. This season they've started using it again for firewood and it's still working great. It helps to place oak logs 20 inches in diameter and 6 feet long on the main pull line to the tractor. If it broke I would buy a replacement immediately. This is a sturdy little winch perfect for general use. Much easier to use and faster than pickup. UPDATE: 5/7/20 The thing still impresses. Now I use it a few times a week to actually pull 200 pound loads. So far it works perfectly
