IS THIS an improvement over the previous model? Uh, not even close. This "steamer" didn't produce enough steam to steam the sides of the lower tier in 10 minutes the first time I used it. After 15 minutes, a small amount of vapor began to appear on the lower tier, but the upper tier was still completely vapor-free. I kept putting my ear to the base to make sure it was working and even raised the levels (after 15 minutes) to see the heating element/vapor production. It was minor at best. Based on that, this steamer is a toy/joke compared to the previous model. Also, the plastic layers are much thinner/flexible plastic, and that probably makes them feel a lot cheaper. The previous version of this vape was larger, made of higher quality plastic and started vaping almost immediately. I used to cook everything I could in it and it was fun to use (even if it was #$%@! for cleaning). The veggies I tried to cook tonight (broccoli and cauliflower) would have been ready in 15 minutes using the previous double boiler, and this kid didn't even have time to heat all of the lower tier veggies. Too bad really. I like the compact design, the metal heating element and the handy time display. Unfortunately, these improvements are lost due to comparatively low productivity, cheaper materials, and obviously MUCH longer cooking times.
