Review on Wright Products Handle Latch VIL333WH by Aaron Franklin

Not quite brass is best for door hardware and locks

It's definitely pot metal with some kind of coating. It's not brass! The outside handle is larger than I thought it would be and I almost returned it as I thought it would be too much for my screen door. My partner laughed at this and said it doesn't really 'fit' the door, it just looks bulky, maybe overkill lol. It kind of matches the real brass hardware on the regular tailgate, which gave it a few points for looks. It's also a little heavier than expected, causing my screen door to slam a little harder. My screen door is one of those lightweight white plastic framed doors from a big store, 1 inch thick. Of course, I'm comparing that to the cheaper tulip-style knob that was out there; the kind that has an internal spring that cannot be repaired, so it fails after a few years. Of course the holes in my door didn't line up with this new handle but I kept the top hole, drilled the next 2 holes and after installation the original hole is now visible under the new handle, who cares, I just go along with it fill white sealant. However, we liked the new handle, it's now very easy to push the inside handle to open the door to go to the patio and just pull the outside handle to open the door to go inside. The push/pull system that replaced the knobs still takes some getting used to, but it works well. My biggest disappointment is the black plastic piece that goes in and out to grab the latch - I suppose that's a weak point, plastic certainly doesn't last as long as pot metal lol. So I didn't bother replacing the latch (on the door jamb), it just worked and had a spring loaded shank - unlike the solid metal latch that came with this new handle set. If you're torn between "brass" and not black or white, don't choose brass because you think it's better - it's just a plating, brass, black or white. It came with a lavish amount of parts to fit a variety of widths. Try it, you can always return it and then someone can buy a returned one for less money like the one I received.

Cons
  • There are nuances
