Review on Dayone Ceiling Replacement Accessories （ZE 268S6） by Jay Hill

Bought this switch to replace a broken switch in our Hampton Bay ceiling fan. I wired it up exactly as the original switch was set, but when I turned on our fan it only had one speed (mid-off-off-off). So I rewired the switch following the instructions I saw in another review on this site. At this point, when I turned the power back on, what I thought was a capacitor "exploded". The fan stopped working completely. I tried rewiring the switch a few other ways, and even applied power directly to one of the fan speed control wires, but it wouldn't turn on. I had to replace the entire ceiling fan to get it working again. First attempt: 1=gray 2=brown 3=black L=purple (this is how the fan was originally wired) Second attempt based on another comment: 1=purple 2=brown 3=grey 4=black (this wiring destroyed the fan) I don't know what happened, but I'm very upset. This product came with no instructions (I literally googled to figure out the wiring). I don't know why they make it so difficult for themselves. Zero stars because I spent all day on it and had to replace the fan.
