I have bought and returned many goals from Amazon. Even DreamBaby gates (the same but cheaper) come with extensions too. I wish I had been new to this before. I don't want to come back This is a good goal at 40 inches tall. I figured I could get an extra inch or so by using tension rods. No! The opening of the doorway is 33.5 inches. I could build something but there would be too much room on the ends for my 10 lb pup. I just ordered a 3.5" extender and hope it works. If it suits your needs I would recommend it. Looks very nice. I prefer black too. UPDATE 01/18/15 I have a 3.5 " received extension. and it fits perfectly in my 33-34 inch doorway. Unfortunately, it costs a lot more than you want to spend. (Only $95) Check out the "Dream Gate". It's a lot cheaper and comes with extensions.
