I was surprised to read the negative reviews on this carving set. "No hardwood," says one guy. Yes, that's what the ad says. I figured if this thing is exactly what the ad says it's GOOD. People break them and then give the set a star. In fact, I found two reviews under two different call numbers a year apart that were identical letter for letter; worth four sentences. hardly a coincidence I think. What the hell? But seriously, these little pearls are worth twelve bucks. There are TWELVE carving tools. This is a dollar tool. Were you expecting custom Gerber blades in knives? It's carbon steel, excellent sharp blades. Look at her, they are very thin and very hard; you break! There is nothing surprising. I do some modifications on the walnut stock, the wood is quite hard, but I use these cheap knives because with a little care they pull a nice long curl out of the wood. A lot of beautiful long thin curls will help you achieve the desired result, just be careful with tools and hands. Overall a good set for fine carving. For money? Star.
