Okay, you're using a Lansky sharpener. The whole idea behind the jig is to make it easy to REPEAT, consistent results whether it's on a table saw or a router. , Lansky sharpener or whatever. So when you first use the Lansky system on a tool or knife, you need to grind/sharpen the edge of the item you want to sharpen to the main angle defined by the hole(s) in the Lansky holder. The quickest and easiest way to do this is using this Lansky Extra Coarse Diamond Hone Silver Holder. at the angle you chose to sharpen. Allow me a few more tips on using the Lansky sharpening system, especially for knives. 1. Use a vise. These can be light clips or a vacuum socket. a handyman's vise or a large locksmith's or mechanic's vise, but use a vise. some sort of T-shaped device, and there are at least a few Lansky extras to hold the holder in place, but I can't imagine them working as well as a lightweight vise. After clamping the knife in the Lansky holder, clamp the bottom of the holder in a vise. Then run the Lansky stones along the edge of your knife (or whatever tool you're sharpening). You will see that NOTHING MOVES even in a light vise! You stroke, stroke the Lansky stones on the blade you're trying to sharpen and everything is calm, smooth and even. Proceed to remove the desired stone for this blade. Yes, you should take some time to loosen the jaw of the vise, turn the Lansky holder (and knife) upside down, and clamp the other leg of the Lansky holder back into the vise. But I sincerely believe that stability is worth it.2. (Mostly for fun.) If you have a manual lens with a 10x or higher magnification (e.g. BelOMO, a 20x-4x loupe, take a look at the edge of the blade while you Lansky's increasingly precise sharpening (or someone else's) changes stones. Under high magnification, your blade will look like you've rubbed it on a pavement or something else when using this super-rough diamond stone. There's one really big difference, the You can easily see for yourself when you have finished sharpening your blade Blades on "Sapphire", "India" or fine-grain Japanese waterstone Thank you for reading my review.
