This was an "experiment" to test a better filter in our home HVAC system. I was a bit concerned that going from Merv 8 to Merv 12 would not be noticeable and would create more back pressure in our system. Surprisingly, this filter made a noticeable improvement and significantly reduced the amount of dust compared to the Merv 8 (Honeywell) that we have been using for 3 years. We decided to ditch our Honeywell ESP cartridges and replace them with a 4x20 filter (Honeywell size) after using ESPs for 6 years. We had many issues and the poor performance of the electrostatic unit (it could kill germs? but it didn't remove normal dust or odors!). We saw a slight improvement with the original switch to Honeywell's Merv 8 replacement filter. After 3 years and 9 cartridge filters (approx. 3 to 5 months each) we wanted more. Our "system" is designed to work with the Merv 13 filter and will not harm the device, some will not (you should test this for your system). The problem was $$$ versus performance and durability and calling out every manufacturer that said "Our Best". I've been lucky. This filter is worth the extra money, lasts longer (easily 6 months for our use, could probably run 8 or 10 with no problems) and gets rid of dust and odor issues. The extra cost is worth it when you consider the 3 year usage pattern, my calculations and the overall improvement. hope this helps you
