The thermometer on this kettle works, unlike the other kettle I've tried before and returned. Additionally, the heat-up time is within the normal range, the handle stays cool, pouring is smooth and controlled, and the rubber coating on the lid handle/thermometer body is also a nice touch should you need to remove the lid during cooking. still hot. The temperature characteristics are stable enough that it takes longer than necessary to preheat and finish the infusion, with plenty of time before the temperature drops to the acceptable brewing range. Not a fatal flaw, but worth noting - a thermometer dial, while accurate enough, isn't perfect if you haven't switched to Celsius yet. The Fahrenheit scale is crammed into the inner circle so it's small and difficult to read from the start, and it doesn't help that its numbering lines up with the Celsius scale markings. Look carefully at the photos of the thermometer and you will understand what I am talking about. Whoever designed this chose to simply use the same grids for both scales. This means that Fahrenheit temperatures are marked every 10°C, which means they are marked every 18°F and not in the usual 5 or 10 degree divisions. Worse still, as a result of being divided into the same ten divisions, each tiny Fahrenheit mark represents 1.8 degrees. Good luck reading this on-the-fly. Thankfully, the entire optimal brewing range is greyed out as a visual cue. The fact that I came with a factory-equipped brain also means I could probably remember a few key Celsius numbers if I didn't learn them right away. I already feel more worldly. Most importantly, this kettle's thermometer is responsive and accurate. At least I can say it's accurate in the sense that I've tested it on two other thermometers, boiling and ice bath, and they all gave correct readings at the same time. So unless all three are calibrated to the same amount and they decide to make new and improved water that freezes and boils at different temperatures than usual, I'm pretty happy with their accuracy. BTW, on the off chance that you spill coffee and don't know who Hario is, I say "copy" in the title bar because this design is a rip off of Hario's teapot. The exception is that Hario sells the thermometer separately.
