Benefits: Strong frame and flaps. Easily handles spirited dogs charging in and out full throttle many times a day. The locking plate can be used on both sides. So if you want your dogs to stay outside, simply push them to the outside door to prevent them from slipping through the doors, hitting the panel or injuring themselves. Disadvantages: installation in the wall according to the manufacturer's instructions - poor design. Your tunnel kit is a waste of money compared to the cost of a wooden post and several long screws. The locking plate only prevents four-legged creatures from entering. This is a large door and if you need any sort of protection from people coming in you'll need to make some sort of inner panel out of heavy plywood or sheet metal. Before purchasing, I read many three star reviews and saw how others dealt with wall mount installation issues. With all this information in mind, I purchased the door and installed it in a 2x6 framed wall in about two hours. Flap. A door has holes in the frame near the corners going through. The second door on the front of the frame, against the wall, has shallow holes, not through the frame, with threaded metal inserts. Theoretically you cut a hole in the wall and insert long screws into the inner door frame and then screw them into the outer door frame, trapping the wall between the two frames. This method probably works well in a doorway, but installing it in a wall this way has only caused trouble for others. I decided to install it my way based on several other reviews that outlined solutions to installation issues. I started by cutting a hole in the drywall inside the house and stripping away some of the insulation. After first removing some of the vinyl siding on the outside, I took many careful measurements, drilled a few holes in the designated corners, and then cut a hole in the siding. With my setup technique, the two holes don't need to line up perfectly, but you do want them to be close together. Dry the doors and make sure the doors fit. My exterior walls are framed with 2x6 studs. I bought a 2x6 bolt and cut out four pieces to trim the inside of the hole or make a tunnel. Before installing any part of the tunnel, the insulation must be reinserted into the wall cavity. Each piece must be attached with two drywall screws inside and out. I inserted the bottom piece first, which was a bit longer so the ends could support the side pieces as I inserted them. about 1.5". The last piece that forms the top of the head was cut to a length of about 11.25" or the width of the tunnel. This leaves you with a nice clean opening. I included the outer door first #14 3" wood screws installed. You'll need to mark the spots and drill pilot holes in the tunnel's skin and woodwork. Once in place I sealed the outside of the frame. I also sealed it from the inside, as well as the inside corners of the tunnel. The door I installed in the house had threaded holes on the back of the frame. In preparation, I drilled these holes through the frame to allow the .25" screws to be inserted. Counterboring threaded inserts is difficult and larger and larger drill bits must be used. I did this before drilling a hole in the wall of my House cut in case I broke the frame and had to make repairs, which didn't happen. I used 3.5" long screws with washers to attach the inner door and again I had to pilot holes for them through the drywall and woodwork of the tunnel drill. Vinyl siding around the door. Overall the siding job, both removing and installing, took about 30-45 minutes due to my lack of skill and experience with this material, but my end results look great. I don't have that time in mine Two hour installation included as your exterior wall conditions and siding experience may vary.
