The dog we adopted from the shelter came in a bit scared, her previous owners kept her in a kennel for over 12 hours a day so understandably she didn't like being there boxes, but we were willing to work with her. One good thing that has helped us in teaching our dog not to hack on doors to get out is throwing him from above first, it will be more difficult for them to understand how the lid works and they won't over it think what's going on.
