Review on Uniden R1 Extreme Detector Degree by Robert Gilbert

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Fair, honest review.

So if you want an honest review, look for the right one. I'm just an average Joe. I love technology and I love having the latest and greatest. I have been using radar detectors for over 15 years. I know which detectors are garbage and which ones cost money. There's a cop who loves to sit on the interstate almost every day and runs the K and KA squads. It's usually in roughly the same place. To be honest it lifts it just as much as the 8500 X50 I had. I haven't seen that magic distance these people who are interested in selling you one of these detectors are trying to tell you. They will tell you this will blow the X50 out of the water. Not sure. I have had many real life encounters since I bought this device. The things I like are the same sensibility as what I'm used to. OLED is a nice change from the V1 and X50 that I've owned. Love the fact that you can choose your own tones for the radar bands. It has a nice power cord with a mute button, which I'm used to. Safer than reaching for the windshield to turn off the sound. The filtering on it is pretty good without the K-band filter. Even with the filter on, it still activates/drops in almost the same places as my X50 and V1. So I just turn off the filters except TSR rejection. Still used to fakes in the same places so really doesn't bother me. I don't believe in using GPS for blocking. There are cops in my town who literally sit where I pick up the standard false signal and trigger the radar. GPS blocking can really work against you. It's nice to see if you're being hit by multiple radar bands, which bands are and how strong each one is. Similar to Escort's "expert mode". To be honest, in terms of range, I haven't seen anything exponentially better on the R1 than the previous Escort and V1 metal detectors I've had. And to be honest, I caught both the Police K and KA (all variants) with these detectors from a pretty impressive range. If anyone who has ever had a crappy detector bought one, they will surely love this series. It would get all 5 stars if it hit me, as any reviewer with financial incentive to talk about it will say. If I have an unusually large extreme range detection with this R1 in the future I will update the review.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
