WOW. SIMPLY WOW! in Automotive Electronics Accessories

Like! I've been on the radar forums and this is by far the best radar detector for its price. In fact, when I bought this radar, it was $50 less than it is now. Given that Uniden sells them, it makes sense that the price would be too high :) You can't blame them for that. If you are planning to get an escort 360 (maximum or not) - DON'T THINK! - You have already found the best. I used to have a valentine saying I'd sell it as soon as I got the R1. I didn't because Uniden is missing arrows :(…

The best detector I have ever used!

I've sworn by Bel or Passport/Escort detectors for 25 years. 20 years ago, a Uniden radar detector was as effective as a donut on a dashboard. My Passport X-70 was a few years old and I figured it was time for a new metal detector. I went through the detector reports and everyone was talking about the Bel Redline killer. New range of scanners Uniden, R1 and R3. After some research, it turned out that Uniden hit the ball with these units. I chose the R1 because I have a factory programmed GPS…

No complaints, but only limited use for me so far

I like it so far. Noise filters work very well. I'll leave my K-band on for now. The rural areas I visit aren't bad with false positives, but they filter out most of what I encounter, so it doesn't bother me yet. If it starts to bother me I'll switch to City 2 or just turn off the K-band. The KA-band is at least a mile away from an experience I had on a local small town cruiser parked a mile away. I haven't had long enough time to talk more about KA or the ability to pick up signals from the…

Great detector; lousy mount

I've had a Cobra RAD 450 and a Beltronics PRO 200 and the Uniden R1 outperforms both but I guess that's to be expected as the R1 costs significantly more than them. The problem I have with R1 is that the signal strength indicator is too small. Tracking the distance to a radar source relies heavily on audible alerts. Since my car has a stereo that is much more audible than the R1's horns, I had to buy a small amplified speaker to hear it. I bought a Uniden BC23A for this purpose and that solved…

Works as advertised; The hype is real!

Bought this before a 1500 mile trip hoping it would work on its own. And so it was; 3 successful alerts in Ka-band with sufficient alert. I've already bought a Valentine One from a friend and I'm not comfortable with that selection; However, I missed the arrows. It was good. I ended up turning off the X and K bands since I'm in California and these are almost entirely false alarms unless you're in Orange County (in which case turn the K band back on). It's eerily quiet now (I'm used to V1's…

Fair, honest review.

So if you want an honest review, then look at the right one. I'm just an average Joe. I love technology and I love having the latest and greatest. I have been using radar detectors for over 15 years. I know which detectors are garbage and which ones cost money. There's a cop who loves to sit on the interstate almost every day and runs the K and KA squads. It's usually in roughly the same place. To be honest it lifts it just as much as the 8500 X50 I had. I haven't seen that magic distance these

Pros

Looks like winner

I drive for a living, about 30-40 thousand a year. Used multiple detectors for 22 years. This R1 replaced the Escort X50 which served me well but became increasingly prone to false K-band alerts on the Autobahn. Escort doesn't offer upgrades or resale discounts (I've had 3 of them) so to hell with them - I've looked elsewhere. I like the R1 size. My old X50 was quite compact, but this one is noticeably smaller. Not much, but less is better. Comes with a sticky mug that works very well. Clear…
