Review on Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras by Carolina Tavarez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Better than expected!

I've always wanted more range for my photos, but the price has always been out of reach. Even used prices were too high to justify them. I'm an amateur so paying even $1000 for a used lens was just unreasonable. Then Revain started offering a free 5-month payment plan for certain items and this made it into the program while it was on sale. Now I wouldn't buy it just for the deal. If the lens performed poorly, you still have to pay a heavy price for it. I've researched this lens extensively and while the reviews were a bit mixed, the lens received enough positive feedback to justify a purchase. I wasn't disappointed at all. In fact, even with my old Nikon D7100 and D3200, the lens exceeded my expectations (and probably my capabilities!). I only use this lens handheld and I find the size and weight acceptable given the range. Image stabilization works like magic, even at slower shutter speeds. The autofocus can stutter at times, but I attribute that to the old cameras I use and my own inexperience with lenses of this length. When the focus is locked it is very sharp. And the manual focus correction is very easy to use. I found I could use a tripod collar to hold the lens and still use the zoom and/or manual focus ring without taking my eyes off the subject. The lens makes a very well-made and well thought-out impression. This lens has reignited my love for bird photography and I look forward to exploring other forms of photography with it.
