uncorrected 40% hearing loss - AccuVoice works

My 76 year old husband had stopped watching movies because he could not follow the dialog, and quit listening to music because he struggled to hear the vocals. His ENT specialist had him tested by an audiologist a few months ago and he has 40% hearing loss, primarily in the upper range. To date he has refused to get hearing aids. So I purchased this speaker system for him and it works like a charm. He is so happy watching his favorites again. I was impressed by the AccuVoice setting which really concentrates and clarifies voices. He also loves listening to his favorite music with it, and is busy plowing through his extensive collection of rock/country/folk/pop. I was really surprised by the bass output, which can actually rattle the shelf the unit is on, and by how well the room is filled with sound. I did not expect this level of performance from an all-in-one unit, especially at this price point. It has exceeded my expectations. If you have hearing loss that interferes with dialog/vocals, you need this. If you have normal hearing and have not previously had an audiophile set up, you will probably be more than pleased. For us, this is replacing a 20 year old 5.1 home theater system with lowish end audiophile components. I am fine with watching movies and listening to his golden oldies--this sound system is amazing for what it is. And our son, who has owned several popular soundbars, thinks it's great. I still use my Sennheiser headphones for highly detailed music. However, we have this soundbase running directly through our Sony Bravia TV>Sony Blu-Ray, so it is highly likely a lot more performance would possible with a better DAC.

Pros
  • No
Cons
  • May not meet the expectations of audiophiles looking for higher-end sound quality
