Review on MMDVM Hotspot Board + Aluminium Case: Ultimate Support for UHF VHF, P25 DMR YSF DSTAR NXDN POCSAG on Raspberry Pi-Zero W, Pi 3 by Evan Larson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great on RPi 3B+ and PiStar 4.1 RC7

I was also a little concerned at first about the lack of offset data and device type information (it's actually printed on the board) , but as I continued with my project I found that the offset was actually zero and with 3B+ I had to use the latest PiStar beta and get a little creative with the editing. I reached out to SHY and the response was almost immediate and very informative. Anyone can sell parts. Customer service matters. I love it so much I will be buying another one soon and using the RPi Zero W so it fits in the case and connects to my camera. 73UPDATE: I ran it almost 24/7 for about 4 months, at home and on mobile. It was stable. I added this in a small plastic box (just b/c from a larger RPi board) and a small fan with unused 5V Nextion connectors on the MMDVM. The temperature stays around 119F the whole time. The only data errors I saw concerned the quality of the mobile phone's data signal, particularly during the tower's transmission. Pi-star 4.1 is out of beta and my update went smoothly. I don't regret this purchase at all.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
