Review on Enhance Electronic Testing Efficiency with Extech TL809 Electronic Test Lead Kit by Curtis Kincade

False advertising and horrible alligator clips

I bought these wires for mini hook connectors and luckily they work quite well. What doesn't work well are alligator clips. The alligator clips have much thicker insulation than pictured and look like professional grade CAT III cables. Unlike their professional counterparts, they rarely make a solid, reliable connection and are actually inferior to the cheaper option shown in the photo. The best I can say is that the insulation can easily prevent the terminals from making contact with the connector they are plugged into. If you don't push them all the way back, they won't make firm contact. The insulation also prevents the jaws from closing completely, preventing them from pinching smaller gauge wires (e.g. 24 AWG). While you might get them working on bigger things, these issues mean you can't trust them. To top it off I have a pair of alligator clips as they advertise and they have none of the problems I have listed. Misleading labels combined with poor design mean these test leads are the first and last time I trust Extech. Everything else in the set is fine. The mini hooks are strong and create a secure connection. Banana plug test probes get the job done and come with a protective sheath that protects the springy part of the plug and allows you to use it as a short test probe that is unlikely to short out another probe. The cable extensions match PVC and fit my VC97+ well without sticking out too far or dangling. worth it, you're lucky, I'll give you three. If at all possible I would recommend avoiding Extech as they clearly want to scam consumers to get money from them. There are many honest companies that I would rather give my hard-earned money to.
