Review on 🚲 KMC Z410 Single Speed Bicycle Chain, 1/2 x 1/8-Inch, 112 Links by Jermaine Rhodes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Extremely durable for drivetrain components

Bought this chain almost a year ago as a chain replacement for my '58 Raleigh Sports and have not found any defects yet. This thing drives over 60 miles a week during the school year in the rolling hills of Ann Arbor. I only lube them occasionally, and I'll admit I'm not that good at regular chain cleaning (do you think I might have done it twice? Oops), but I haven't noticed any stretching or excessive wear yet. For the price and what it is I think this is a very good chain and I will be buying another one for another bike. EDIT: After 15 months and nearly 2000 miles of city driving it's finally time to replace my first Z410. Most riders change chains on average every 2,000 miles (i.e. those who watch chains), taking into account rider weight, terrain, climate and everything else. It was suggested that when the 12" (24 link) chain grew 1/16" longer, it was time for a new one. Now my chain has reached that level and I can see that I took VERY BAD care of this chain. I'm impressed that it has an average lifespan. I'll be more careful from now on, but as I ride around town every day in the rain/snow/sun/salt, the new mesh will again see more than its share. It has been the mainline for all single gear / IGH bikes I've built I have, and will continue to have, until I find something better.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Protection
