I'm not sure what this odd picture is supposed to show, but first the black nut needs to be screwed into the crank, and then that chrome screw into the black nut screwed to move the crank from the axle. However, the threads on the black nut did not match those on the Suntour and Shimano cranks. It took me probably 15 tries, lots of WD-40 and a bit of force to get this black walnut to fit properly. It also took some effort to thread it all the way in (the metal nut looked intact, so I probably messed up the softer aluminum crank threads a bit). Also the small wrench that comes with the puller is useless. It's about 2 inches long and is too short for a good grip. Didn't even try to use it as it looked very thin. Instead I used a wrench. A more inappropriate thread would render the tool unusable for me. Since I haven't read anything about this problem before and assume that these threads are standardized for Shimano, Suntour, etc., "tolerances" may occur in the manufacture of this crank. puller. So I wouldn't buy it again, nor would I recommend it to anyone as I would be breaking down cranks on a regular basis.
