Review on 🍳 Black Spring Eggbeater 1 by Michael Patilla

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Fits road bikes only, not MTB

1. Installation requires an unusually large Allen key. Either 5/16" or 8mm. Hard to tell. This isn't specified anywhere. 2. The on/off clipping is quite unstable. 3. If you twist your heel a little they can come loose. I've been using them since about a year.Road and mountain biking on moderate trails. But when I tried to ride on the advanced route they turned the ride into a nightmare.I have ridden such advanced trails before with Shimano SPD pedals with no problems in comparison to Eggbeaters. Shimano pedals (PD-M520) allow 10-20 degrees of heel curvature thanks to the round cleat cutout. Spring tension is easy to adjust to your liking. But Eggbeaters require perfect heel position or they will fire unexpectedly. For example: when jumping in the air or when driving over rocks or roots - a time when an unexpected deployment can lead to an accident and injury When driving over rough terrain, is t difficult to keep your legs perfectly straight. The only positive thing I can say is that the build quality seems to be good. They are simply not for MTBs, unless you only ride on flat forest paths, preferably paved. .Anyone who disagrees with this review should check out the Eggbeaters in Slickrock, Moab, Utah before writing anything. :)
